We all pray we never get a sewage backup. This is a disgusting sludgy mess that not many of us are really equipped to deal with, both physically and emotionally. The mess, the smell, the bacteria! When there is a sewer backup the water is classified as “Category 3”, which means it’s considered “hazardous” and most affected articles from the home must be removed and replaced as opposed to just drying which is usually enough for soft surfaces like carpeting and furniture when clean water (Category 1) is the culprit. Some hard non-porous surfaces can be properly cleaned but anything porous or soft surface will require replacement.
